Contingent:

 

Many clients find the Contingent format appealing as it incentivizes recruiters to swiftly complete the search. This approach can be highly effective in numerous scenarios.

In the Contingent model, clients face no upfront financial commitment to kickstart the search, offering a more flexible arrangement for both parties. However, it's essential to note that Contingent searches typically offer a lower level of service compared to Engaged or Retained searches. Nonetheless, when there's a moderate urgency in filling a position, this model can be advantageous.

Contingent searches primarily rely on tapping into existing candidate networks and expanding them through referrals. While proactive recruiting is part of the process, recruiters must manage their time and resources judiciously due to the uncertain fee structure.

Clients opting for an Exclusive Contingent arrangement often gain from the recruiter's increased dedication, leading to a more thorough search. Moreover, exclusivity prevents the frenzied competition among recruiters that often compromises the search quality.

However, it's worth mentioning that candidates surfaced during a Contingent search might also be presented to other companies to maximize the chances of securing a placement and recouping the investment.

 

Engaged:

Engaged search involves a partial payment from the client at the outset to support the dedicated time and resources allocated to their talent needs.

This model allows recruiters to cast a wider net more efficiently. While it still involves reaching out to existing networks, Engaged searches employ a more proactive approach to identify and attract fresh referrals from targeted talent pools, resulting in quicker outcomes.

An attractive feature of Engaged searches is candidate exclusivity. Candidates surfaced during the search won't be presented elsewhere until released by the client.

The collaborative nature of Engaged searches fosters strategic alliances, often leading to an extended guarantee period and higher caliber candidates.

 

Retained:

Retained search represents the highest level of service, where clients pay for the process rather than the candidate.

Typically reserved for critical positions or urgent situations, Retained search involves paying the fee in thirds: at the search's inception, upon presenting a shortlist of candidates, and upon concluding the process.

Clients benefit from thorough candidate sourcing and screening processes, detailed reports, and assessments provided by the project manager.

Retained searches offer extended guarantee periods and provide clients with comprehensive insights into candidates' fit for the role, making it a preferred choice for critical hires.
